The Appetite for Action Competition
Win £3,000 and the chance to feature on TV on Sky Real Lives
This year we are giving our winning schools another chance to do something exciting with Sky and Global Action Plan. Not only will they receive £3,000 for their school, the overall winner will also have the opportunity be on TV!
Be a real life green heroThere will be one winning primary school for each of the five participating countries - England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland - all of whom will receive £3000 for their school. In addition, one of these schools will be chosen as the overall winners and they will be visited by Sky Real Lives. Action team members will be the stars of a short film that will be shown on Sky Real Lives in summer 2010. Last year’s overall winners, St. Mark’s Primary School Wigan won £3,000 and a visit from the Sky News crew for the day. Read more about them and our other winning schools from 2008/09. |
| Sky Real Lives is the channel dedicated to telling extraordinary stories about ordinary people. Covering stories about triumph over adversity, living with a medical condition, addiction, weight issues and baby and plastic surgery stories. There is something that’s bound to grab your interest. Sky Real Lives is the only television channel dedicated to bringing ordinary people’s extraordinary stories to life and is available on channel 243 and in HD on channel 278. |
Entry criteria
It couldn’t be easier to enter our competition. As you progress through the challenge all the data and entries you make will be stored on your profile page. Once you have completed step 4 you will be invited to enter the competition automatically, provided you have done the following:
- Created a team profile (minimum of a Team name and five team members)
- Completed Step 1-Measure
- Completed at least five actions (marked as complete on Action Plan)
- Completed at least five diary entries
- Completed Step 4-Measure your success
- Achieved a measurable positive improvement for at least one key measure. For more on what the key measures are see here.

Friday 11th June 2010 - Competition entry closes
Wednesday 16th June 2010– country winners announced
Wed 16th - Fri 18th June 2010 - Showcase/review of country winners
Mon 21st June 2010 - Final winner announcement
22nd/23rd/24th June 2010 – Prize day!
Judging criteria for Country Winner
Schools will be shortlisted for their country based on:
- Depth and quality of diary entries
- Creativity of action ideas
- Sustainability of changes
- Evidence of involvement of parents and the wider community
- Environmental improvement
Judging criteria of overall Winner
Demonstration of how changes are embedded into the whole school culture.
